Live in Lincoln Park/ Gold Coast/ River North…and if you have to then Lakeview- but anywhere north or south of that try to stay away from.North gets to far from where you’ll work and go out and south is more of the business district so mainly too far from where you’ll go out. Stay away from Wicker Park it’s super groovy and trendy for right now and I get that but it’s pretty far from transportation so it’s chill to go out to every now and then but that’s about all. As for what to do here’s an idea: GO OUT mainly in Lincoln Park (more bars) or River North (a bit fancier). Oh also eat. Chicago has great food. And there’s this thing called shopping- Chicago has this street called the Magnificent Mile but also cute little pockets in each neighborhood. Posted on — Replythe more north you live, the better. The north shore of chicago is like the upper east side. For example Wilmette, Winnetka, Glencoe. I mean obvi if you dont want to live on the lake in a mansion then the gold coast is the only place to live in the city. The ideal place (if you wanna get specific) is this building called the Aqua building. It’s by far the betchiest place and my friends and I chill there for Lolla (the highlight of any Chicago betches summer) but yeah. I go to Lifetime gym just because it’s right near where I live. the gold coast and michigan avenue is where to shop, although be careful because every fat ugly midwestern person will be taking pictures on michigan avenue so it’s kind of gross to be around but if you’re hot then it’s fine. DONT go to nightclubs in the city, they’re sketcchhhh and you’ll most likely get rapped. Go to some of the cool bars around the college areas. When it comes to eating there are so many cool and really good places to eat all over the city. Shopping is fun and summers here are the best. hope I helped and welcome to Chicago!
Posted on — ReplyJust be careful because Gold Coast can get a little gay/TTH. To the untrained unbetch eye, Gold Coast will seem like a cooler place to live than LP. But LP is where to live if you value close proximity to hot people. Let me make an analogy: remember in college when there were some bars/clubs that sounded extremely glamorous/posh but then ended up being filled with rich ethnic old men and MGBs trying to prove something? And then all the legit hot pros you wanted to fuck were throwing down drinking beer at a more low-key bar where, even though you’re not a low-key person, you naturally looked the hottest? Gold coast is like that bar where guys are trying to prove themselves by drinking gay sounding expensive drinks and you’d never want to fuck them. LP is like that bar where guys are drinking beer or jameson or whatevs, tall, hot, athletic, desirable, not trying too hard, and valuing your hotness. Does this make sense? And yeah definitely join #195 equinox.
(I think the true gem neighborhood is Old Town right in between GC and LP - guys are still very hot and a little more put together than LP, but not quite as metro as GC. And you’re in a perfect spot for getting to work, going out, and being near the lake for #whatever tanning in the summer).
betches should hire me to rewrite their Chicago review because it sucked…
Posted on — Replyfor a gym, join equinox. they have the greatest trainers and classes ever. plus, everyone there, yourself included obvs, looks like a supermodel. it’s fabulous. makes going to the gym fun. join the one at 900 michigan ave if you want to see some celebs. or the one on the Loop, with all the hot guys working in the financial district. as for where to live, yes, hit river north or lincoln park. wicker park is for hipsters. except for this bar, it’s called the bedford… it’s the shit. it’s a converted bank vault into this swanky bar, it’s awesome, but happens to be in WP. i grew up on the north shore, as mentioned above. and while yes, the movie mean girls was based on the high school i went to, you don’t want to move onto the north shore until you have a hot pro husband who can buy you a fabulous house on sheridan road (we have our own magazine, nbd). the ‘mag mile’ is a combo of streets - east oak, north michigan, etc. it’s a great place to spend an afternoon. if you need a good spa, go to exhale on state street. go to katherine for all of your waxing needs. she’s amazing.
Posted on — ReplyDefinitely agree on Equinox. They have locations anywhere you will ever need to go in the US. Much better than David Barton and East Bank Club as well. Some interesting people work out there - Lady Gaga’s bf, Lip from Shameless and Giuliana Rancic to name a few. Gold Coast is nice, but agreed - stay away from Michigan. The tourists suck. Lincoln Park can be a bit, collegiate (i.e. state school kids who never really grew up) that being said, it also has some of the nicest most expensive real estate in the city. Mixed bag… Armitage is typically a nice area.
You also can’t go wrong with Streeterville, and the Lakeshore East / New East Side area is pretty nice, but a bit quiet. Walkscore.com is a great way to check out the area’s walkability.
Frankly, I think you’ll love it. Whenver friends from NY / Miami / SF visit they fall in love. It has everything from sports and dive bars to cutting edge dining (EL ideas, Alinea, Elizabeth and Goosefoot to name very few) to excellent shopping (Lanvin, Barneys, and Akira on Ohio is a must see!) all in a clean city that will make you ever wonder why people live in NY. Plus, rent is really cheap here. You can get a nice one bed for around $2200, which is pennies compared to NY or SF.
Posted on — ReplyLoop: Business district everything closes down, a mix from 18 year olds with daddys money to young adults that walk to work.
Lincoln Park: College students + shit show, cute, less expensive.
River North: Young professionals, higher prices, small units, prime location
Gold Coast & Oldtown: Old money, old old money, like grandmas granddad saved money for these lucky SOBs, expensive, yet tasteful, and classy.
Wicker Park: Cute hipster area, if you are in to that type of atmosphere. Tons of coffee shop, and artsy folk. Go there to bar hop on occasions.
Anywhere else, id say next… if you just moved into the city and don’t have a car, id stay in these locations. Otherwise it will seem like you are in suburbia -
Posted on — Replydon’t live in wicker park…. way too hipster and you’re near the blue line (ew). Don’t live in wrigleyvile because its loud, gross, filled with dunk people and way too close to the sketchy part of boystown. Gold Coast and Lincoln park are ideal. River North only if you’re a true yuppie (mostly business people).
