It was in quotations, and not used in any derogatory way. It is not wrong to reference a relevant social term in this context.

Head Pro is dead on about the first girl and her problems with the word “retard.” My younger sister has Down Syndrome and my family and I have all been guilty of using “retard” on one occasion or another.  The only reason it has power is because you’re giving it power, otherwise it should be enough to know that society as a whole has come a very long way in regards to people with disabilities and that you personally have done your part in sharing your story with people who probably have never had experience with friends or family members with intellectual disabilities. Words are words, the betchy thing to do is to make your case and refuse to let them affect you any longer.

I’m sorry you have to live around that, but good for you for calling out your own roommates! You have to stick up for the people who normally can’t stick up for themselves!

You should call those R-bomb droppers cunts every time they say retard in a derogatory form. That’ll teach those cunts.

Yes….because the best way to stop the use of “hateful language” is to just throw more into the situation….Please watch any children’s television show EVER MADE…or repeat kindergarten…

Also….as a fellow Betch and someone generally unaffected by derogatory terms slung in my direction, please don’t think calling me a cunt in response is going to hurt my feelings…And it wont help with your roomies either Mama-Betch Bear….listen to the pro…the word doesn’t mean the same thing now in colloquial terms as it did say 15 years ago…but I am still very sorry you are living in a situation that makes you so uncomfortable

i am really glad there aren’t as many delusional daters asking for advice on this website now. people now have issues that are either in a gray area or real, or both. that is worth reading and it is something DIFFERENT!
