And I have read the blog visible children, and though it has some good points (Kony is no longer in Uganda, the child army is not as bad as it was, etc), there is still no reason to NOT raise awareness. There’s no reason to not help out. We may not be politicians or be educated on the subject, but for anyone with a soul (betches still have souls, not gingers) this video is all the education we need. It’s nice to see everyone unite for a cause because those little Africans don’t deserve any of that!!

you should know that only 32% of their money raised goes toward direct aid, the rest towards marketing and staff salaries and travel expenses. Also, this money goes to support the Ugandan military which isn’t much better than the LRA.

Their point is awareness. “50% of our programming budget is utilized in bringing awareness to the situation and promoting international support of the peace process taking place. At the same time, there is a dire need for relief in northern Uganda, especially when it comes to the region’s youth. The remaining 50% of our budget provides top-notch programming for affected children and their families.”

Direct aid, while necessary, can’t be the only thing because what happens when the money runs out? They’re facilitating Ugandans helping Ugandans; building schools and creating opportunities for education.
While Kony has been ‘largely inactive,’ what does that really mean? There were three abductions by the LRA in the past two days, two of children. Does that not matter because it isn’t one thousand people?
This is not a corrupt regime. These are concerned people spreading awareness.

The point of this campaign isn’t to raise money its to garner attention, arresting Kony sets a precedent. Also if the money goes towards funding trip expenses for the people who started this, they deserve it. Its daddy’s dime anyway.

Less than 35% of donations to Invisibile Children are used to futher their causes, and a lot of their money goes to arm the corrupt Ugandan army. While Kony should be stopped, donating to Invisible Children should be reconsidered.

it took ten years to get obama…but apparently Kony has been much less active in the past 6 years, trying to arrest him him for war crimes now is not going to do much. the other side of the conflict could probably be charged with war crimes as well.

i think y’all are ignoring the fact that IC is donating the 32% of money they DO send to uganda to a regime that is just as corrupt as LRA. the ugandan military is also involved in child trafficking and rape, and while giving money to the military may lead to kony’s assassination it will not lead to safety of children.

obviously it’s up to each person to decide whether or not to support IC, and i could care less what decision that is, but i think that the video above does little to present a wholistic and entirely factual representation of the truth. i don’t care who you chose to support, i just think people should make that decision after they are aware of the facts of a complex situation beyond the ones presented in a single 30 minute video.

IC wants to use the Ugandan’s People’s Defence Army to bring down Kony. The UPDA is just as corrupt as the LRA, accused of murder, rape and child abductions. There can’t be a focus on one man - it’s an entire nation of instability and corruption.

The reason Americans and Europeans trying to raise awareness about issues in Africa and provide charity/relief/aid there doesn’t work is because Africans DON’T WANT OUR HELP, at least not the way we try to give it. American aid comes with American values and expectations that Africans don’t want imposed upon them. And all these problems in Africa today are ripple effects from the impact of colonization.

The people that founded this organization studied cinema production, structural engineering and applied mathematics. Their educational backgrounds combined with the viewpoint seen in their film indicates that they clearly have no
understanding of how international politics works or how Africans actually feel about the West or what development methods are actually effective. Making Kony famous isn’t going to establish stable government or alleviate poverty or eradicate hunger in Uganda. Bringing more attention to the cause may have made it harder to capture him because Kony knew US forces were trying to find him.  Jason Russell is a self involved wannabe rock star. He described himself as a love child of Bono, Steven Spielberg and Oprah and named his children Gavin Danger and Everley Darling. Like who do you think you are buddy?

You actually support Invisible Children? Clearly, you’ve only seen the videos and know nothing else about them. Jason Russell has an annual “pro” income, which is all your teen dollars spent on ridiculous merchandise. I agree with the sentiment of the campaign, but nothing else.
